Key West has a lot to offer. We at the Cabana Inn can tell you first hand. The beautiful beaches, an abundance of water activities, and the ease of being a short walk from the wildly entertaining Duval Street. However, a new idea has been conceived to make Key West genuinely magical, and when we say magical — we mean it. The Key West Mermaid Festival, which is just a short trek from our inn at Key West, is the latest addition to our community that unites locals and tourists alike for great family fun.

Story of the Festival

Founded by a local business owner who runs a mermaid-themed boutique called The Captain’s Mermaid, the festival lasts for three days. Last year, there were a few events put on sporadically. They hosted a Sirens Masquerade Ball,  a Mermaid Movie Night, and a Breakfast with Mermaids, which is back by popular demand this year. Because of the event’s overall success, this is the first year where it has bloomed into a full-fledged festival.

Festival Events

It starts with the Meet the Mermaids event held at another inn at Key West Florida a short drive from the Cabana. Attendees will have the chance to swim with the mermaids and see a mermaid swim show at the tail end of the event. Breakfast with Mermaids occurs the following day and a parade right after. The night-cap Saturday is the Ocean Blue Party, a fun 21+ dance to get your groove on featuring themed drinks and a silent auction. The Key West Mermaid Festival ends with a Sunday Funday with Mermaids at Lagerheads Beach Bar supplying face painting, food and drink specials, and music.
